I designed this set in a found space: The Tino Grigio indoor pool. The pool was closed and drained over nine years ago and used as a dumping ground, the building was left to rot without heat or electricity; the Theaterwork company cleaned and transformed the space into a theater that sat 150. I placed the audience directly on the shallow end of the pool going up in tiers so that the audience perspective changes dramatically from first row to last row. The first row sits only a foot away from the playing area. It was challenging to create a bold set over an expansive area, given the limitations of low wattage for lighting, an inaccessible ceiling and limited water and heat.
